According to a report from Kompasiana, one of the main triggers of this trend is dissatisfaction with Indonesia’s economic and employment conditions. Many young people struggle to find decent jobs despite having completed higher education. Low wages and widening social inequality further drive their desire to seek opportunities in other countries.

In response to this phenomenon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemlu RI) emphasized that working abroad is the right of every citizen. However, they also reminded the public of the importance of following legal procedures and complying with applicable regulations. Based on 2024 data from Kemlu RI, out of 67,297 cases involving Indonesian citizens abroad, the majority were related to immigration violations due to non-procedural migration routes. Therefore, the public is urged to ensure that migration is conducted safely and legally to avoid future problems, as reported by CNN Indonesia.

Additionally, the decision of Dodi Romdani, a former village head of Sukamulya in Ciamis, to resign and return to work as a migrant worker in Japan has also drawn public attention. His story is seen as a reflection of the desire of many individuals to seek a better life abroad.
