President Prabowo Subianto met with the Prime Minister of Thailand, Paengtongtarn Shinawatra, at the Government House in Bangkok, Thailand. During this meeting, Prabowo expressed the desire for the Investment Management Agency Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara) to establish cooperation with investment institutions in Thailand.
Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that in the bilateral meeting, both countries agreed to enhance collaboration across various sectors, including trade and tourism. In trade, they plan to open new trade zones.
At the same occasion, Prabowo proposed the opening of new flight routes to boost tourism, such as Bangkok-Surabaya and Phuket-Medan. He also expressed the intention for investments from both countries to flow through Danantara.
“We also conveyed that Indonesia currently has a Sovereign Wealth Fund agency managing all state assets, which is Danantara. If there are investments, Danantara will serve as the investment vehicle,” said Sugiono in his statement, quoted on Tuesday (May 20, 2025).
Sugiono assessed that Danantara’s position is strengthened by the presence of world-class figures on its supervisory board, including former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, former Australian PM Paul Keating, and former British PM Tony Blair.
“In addition to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Danantara also involves former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating and Tony Blair, all of whom are recognized as successful leaders during their tenures and are expected to add value by sharing their insights and experiences in managing state wealth. I believe this is highly anticipated,” explained Sugiono.
