DIGIVESTASI - President Prabowo Subianto highlighted that stock market investments are less favorable for the lower-income population, asserting that only major players with substantial capital can reap significant profits from stock trading.

"If small investors join the stock market game, they are bound to lose. For them, stocks are often perceived as gambling. The winners are always the big players with strong capital," Prabowo remarked in his speech at the Opening of the Muhammadiyah Tanwir Assembly 2024, broadcast virtually on Wednesday (December 4, 2024).

Prabowo also revealed that he had once faced threats of a decline in the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) due to his implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals Program. He noted that many parties have underestimated various programs he has designed for the benefit of the Indonesian people.

However, he did not take such threats seriously. According to Prabowo, the impact of a stock market decline is not directly felt by the majority of the population, particularly those without investments in the stock market.

"I was threatened that because of the nutritious meal program, the stock index would drop. I simply said, tell them I don't own any stocks, and neither do the villagers in rural areas. If the stock market falls, it's only the stock players who are affected," Prabowo firmly stated.

Jokes About Ministers Trading Stocks

During the event, Prabowo also joked about some of his officials allegedly participating in the stock market. He mentioned Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlements, Fahri Hamzah, as one who might be active in the capital market.

"Which of these ministers is trading stocks? Confess. Fahri Hamzah might be one of them," joked Prabowo, eliciting laughter from the audience.

He also teased Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, speculating that Trenggono might have a special algorithm for stock trading.

"Pak Trenggono is coughing; perhaps he already has an algorithm for stocks," said Prabowo, once again drawing laughter from the crowd.
