DIGIVESTASI - New York: Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, two luminaries of the investment world, have indirectly sent negative signals to the US stock market by selling shares and increasing their company's cash reserves.

Quoted by Investing.com, Monday, May 20, 2024, in the first quarter of 2024, Bill Gates significantly reduced his investment portfolio, including selling Berkshire Hathaway shares worth more than $1 million billion and Microsoft shares worth nearly $700 million.

This move is in line with Warren Buffett's actions during the same period, which saw Berkshire Hathaway's cash reserves reach a record high of $189 billion in the first quarter of 2024.

Buffett expects these cash reserves to continue to grow, reaching $200 billion by the end of this quarter. He also said Berkshire Hathaway will only invest in opportunities with low risk and high potential returns.

Selling Apple shares to Chevron

In addition to increasing cash reserves, Berkshire Hathaway also reduced some of its holdings, including 13% of Apple, 2% of Chevron, and all of Paramount Global.

Even so, Buffett remains optimistic about Apple's prospects, calling it a better company than Coca-Cola and American Express.

Stock sales and increased cash reserves by some market participants can be interpreted as bearish signals, indicating that these two experienced investors see few attractive opportunities in the stock market at the moment.
This may encourage other investors to be more cautious in their investment decisions.
