DIGIVESTASI - BYD has confirmed that it will build a factory in Indonesia. The BYD factory will be built in Subang Regency, West Java Province. The Chinese electric car manufacturer unmitigated disbursed funds of up to US $ 1 billion or Rp 16.2 trillion. The BYD electric vehicle production facility will be built in the Subang Smartpolitan Phase 2 area, especially in the northern area.
With a comprehensive and integrated EV ecosystem plan, BYD will utilize its largest land area of more than 108 hectares. BYD's investment is claimed to not only create thousands of new jobs and boost the economy of the surrounding area, but also facilitate the transfer of technology and expertise in electric vehicle (EV) production.
This will encourage the growth of supporting industries in the electric vehicle sector, open up new opportunities for local companies to participate in the global electric vehicle supply chain, and also support Indonesia's significant economic growth.
BYD has signed a bilateral agreement with PT Suryabuat Swadaya as the developer of Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Park.
The next process is the land handover which is expected to take place in August 2024. BYD plans to continue development work in stages and plans to start operations in January 2026. "Our total investment in Indonesia is more than $1 billion (Rs 16.2 trillion). If everything goes well, our target is to start operations in 2026. Regarding factory capacity, we have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units," said Eagle Zhao, President and Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, at JIExpo Arena in Kemayoran, Jakarta (April 30, 2024).
