DIGIVESTASI - Elon Musk says he agrees with global tech scientists' predictions that there will be around 1 billion humanoid robots on Earth in the next two decades. Musk via X, formerly Twitter, agreed with the prediction of David Holz, founder of artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory Midjourney.
Holz said in an article that he expects there to be 1 billion humanoid robots on Earth by 2040 and 100 billion (mostly alien) robots across the solar system by 2060. Musk responded to this tweet by saying: "It's possible, as long as the foundation of civilization is stable."
Tesla, one of the companies Musk founded, has developed a humanoid robot prototype that the billionaire could consider to help realize such lofty predictions. Tesla Optimus, also known as Tesla Bot, was first announced at the company's AI Day in August 2021, when Musk said the company plans to make a prototype next year. Then he talked about robots.
"I think robotics has the potential to become bigger than the automotive sector over time," he said at the time.
At an event in October 2022, Musk said he hopes to eventually produce millions of Optimus robots, which are expected to cost $20,000 per unit, although the robot's capabilities will remain limited. .
"There's still a lot of work to do to perfect Optimus," he said at the time. "I think Optimus will be great in five or 10 years."
By 2022, Musk said he hopes to commercialize the robot within three to five years. When ready, the robot will be a highly efficient machine. He told Reuters that creating humanoid robots is not in line with accelerating sustainable energy as Tesla's main goal.
