DIGIVESTASI - SOE Minister Erick Thohir has strongly signaled to Chinese platform TikTok to increase its investment in Indonesia. Erick emphasized that as the largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia deserves greater investment than other countries. In fact, Erick said Indonesia will become one of the largest economies in the world. "I hope TikTok will not become a foreigner in Indonesia, given its economic potential," Erick said at the TikTok Pos Aja! event in Jakarta, Wednesday (10/7/2024).
Erick asked TikTok to be bolder in investing in Indonesia, along with Indonesia's very favorable economic conditions. He emphasized that TikTok should not act like a foreigner.
According to Statista data, Indonesia had the largest TikTok audience in April 2024, with nearly 127.5 million users. "TikTok must have the courage to invest more than other countries. Tell TikTok leaders that they should not be foreigners in Indonesia because the economic potential is much greater. If other countries provide an investment of 1, Indonesia must get 4 because we want to build a win-win economy together," he said.
Erick emphasized that TikTok should not provide the same investment as other countries. According to him, providing the same investment value will make the government feel dissatisfied. "We are from BUMN, and I invite the private sector and foreign investment that believes in the Indonesian market, not to invest halfway in Indonesia," he said. Erick is also committed to encouraging all SOEs to be open in working with MSMEs, the private sector, and foreign investment in a transparent and professional manner.
