DIGIVESTASI - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, revealed that Indonesia will soon have a factory producing raw materials for electric vehicle batteries, or precursors. This factory, owned by Huayou Indonesia, is scheduled to be inaugurated in November or December 2024.
According to Bahlil, the construction and preparation of the factory are nearly complete. The factory will eventually produce precursors that can be exported as raw materials for Tesla's electric vehicle batteries.
"It's almost finished. The inauguration might be next month," Bahlil said at the Ministry of ESDM on Friday (November 1, 2024).
He aims for the factory to be inaugurated as soon as November 2024, or at the latest, in December 2024.
"God willing, this November, or at the latest, December," he added.
Previously, Bahlil mentioned that Huayou’s precursor factory, located in North Maluku, was under construction and planned to supply the demand for Tesla's electric vehicle batteries starting in January 2025.
"The project we're undertaking in the second half of this year, particularly for the electric vehicle battery ecosystem, includes a cathode plant to be built in Batang in collaboration with LG," he explained at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (July 29, 2024).
"In addition, Huayou is also building a precursor factory in North Maluku to meet Tesla's demand. Starting January 1, 2025, Indonesia will begin shipping battery precursor materials from the factory in Weda Bay," Bahlil added.
