Elon Musk’s Tesla has issued a recall for 46,000 Cybertruck units currently on the market, marking the eighth safety-related recall for Tesla vehicles since Cybertruck deliveries began last year.
The futuristic, armored, and angular Cybertruck is facing issues with its exterior panel, which could detach while driving. The recall was initiated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) after discovering that the cantilever rail assembly, located between the windshield and the roof, was secured using structural adhesive prone to environmental degradation.
To resolve the issue, Tesla plans to replace the adhesive with a more durable material and reinforce the affected panels. The recall covers all 2024 and 2025 Cybertruck models manufactured between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. Tesla identified the problem earlier this year, and owner notification letters are set to be sent out on May 19, 2025.
According to Techspot, Monday (March 24, 2025), this recall adds to Tesla’s ongoing safety challenges with the Cybertruck, including electrical inverter faults and accelerator pedal malfunctions.
Financially, Tesla reported a net profit of $2.3 billion in Q4 2024, a sharp 70% decline from the previous year’s $5.9 billion. However, the company’s revenue grew 1.9% year-over-year, reaching $25.7 billion, up from $25.2 billion in the prior year.
Amid declining profits, Tesla managed to generate $692 million from regulatory credit sales to other automakers, significantly contributing to its net income. However, this revenue stream may be at risk, as discussions about the potential elimination of California’s emissions credit program—which has long benefited Tesla—continue to unfold.
