Bitcoin fell below US$80,000 again as investors focused on AI-related stocks ahead of earnings from major technology companies and the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision.
Bitcoin dropped as much as 1.4%, slipping below US$79,280 in Monday trading. Ether, XRP and Solana also weakened. US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded US$772.4 million in outflows on Thursday and Friday, reversing more than US$1 billion in net inflows earlier in the week.
Thomas Probst, a research analyst at Kaiko, said Bitcoin and AI stocks are likely to react to different market drivers. He added that forced liquidations of leveraged long positions contributed to the decline.
Pratik Kala, portfolio manager at Apollo Crypto, said Bitcoin remains a risk asset avoided by many systematic funds and algorithmic traders. This leaves it vulnerable when market sentiment deteriorates.
