Bank Indonesia expects the value of trade and investment settled using local currencies, or Local Currency Transactions (LCT), to reach around US$55 billion by the end of 2026. BI Governor Destry Damayanti shared the projection at the Danantara Technology Innovation Investment Forum in Jakarta on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Destry said LCT transactions were about US$25 billion in 2025. China was identified as one of the main partners, with a large transaction contribution. LCT allows export, import, and investment settlements to use the local currencies of the participating countries.

Destry said diversifying currencies for trade and investment can reduce the use of the US dollar in some transactions and help make exchange-rate movements more balanced. This does not mean the US dollar is being removed from Indonesian trade; BI described the approach as currency-use diversification.

BI has LCT cooperation with around six to seven countries and continues to expand bilateral partnerships. Destry said Singapore was interested in joining the LCT framework, while India wanted to explore both LCT and cross-border QRIS. She also said several other central banks had approached BI to discuss possible cooperation.

The US$55 billion figure is a year-end projection from the BI governor, while US$25 billion is the 2025 amount she cited. The final 2026 transaction total has not yet been reported as a completed figure.
