Indonesia’s Trade Ministry is encouraging micro, small and medium-sized businesses to become exporters and reach international markets. Fajarini Puntodewi, the ministry’s Director General for National Export Development, said cooperation among government, digital platforms and logistics providers is needed to widen market access for local products. BPS data cited by Bisnis.com show exports reached US$193.64 billion in January–August 2026, up 4.74% from US$184.89 billion in the same period of 2025. Non-oil and gas exports rose 5.48% to US$185.63 billion, while oil and gas exports fell 9.98% to US$8.01 billion from US$8.90 billion.
Fajarini said exports accounted for 23.18% of GDP in the first half of 2026. The ministry has three programs: safeguarding the domestic market, expanding export markets, and taking local products global. To open access, the government has 25 trade agreements in the form of free trade agreements (FTAs) and comprehensive economic partnership agreements (CEPAs). Fajarini said some agreements reduce import tariffs on certain goods to zero, and their coverage also includes services.
She urged domestic businesses to use the market access already established so that opportunities are not used only by foreign companies. Agreements with Europe and Eurasia were also cited as potential opportunities for MSMEs.
