PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) began sending natural gas from Natuna through the West Natuna Transportation System (WNTS)–Pemping pipeline for PLN Batam power plants at 00:25 WIB on October 27, 2026. The gas had previously been exported to Singapore. Acting PLN EPI President Director Rakhmad Dewanto said the flow was gradually ramped up to 15 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) toward Tanjung Uncang at 01:01 WIB.
In the short term, the route is expected to help meet PLN Batam’s plant gas needs during scheduled maintenance at the Jambi Merang facility from October 24 to November 3, 2026. The WNTS–Pemping infrastructure connects the WNTS network to a gas receiving facility on Pemping Island, Riau Islands. The pipeline is about 4.5 kilometers long, 16 inches in diameter and has a designed capacity of 300 MMSCFD.
PLN EPI said it had obtained a special gas-pipeline transport right from BPH Migas, valid through October 17, 2046, and a temporary business license from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, issued on October 26, 2026. The company said the route is also prepared for long-term supply under a gas sale agreement with West Natuna Exploration Limited signed on July 11, 2025. Gas from the Mako Field in the Duyung Working Area is planned to begin flowing in 2027 at 111 MMSCFD for eight years.
The project involves government agencies, PLN Group, Natuna gas producers, TGI, Medco E&P Natuna, PGN, Pelayanan Energi Batam and Batam Trans Gasindo.
