President Prabowo Subianto called on the international community to ensure the establishment of a Palestinian state. He emphasized that Indonesia would only recognize Israel once Israel acknowledges the independence and sovereignty of Palestine.
Prabowo delivered this statement at the United Nations (UN) Summit on the two-state solution for peace in Palestine, held at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States, on Tuesday (September 23, 2025). The summit was broadcast live on the UN’s official website.
“We must guarantee the existence of the Palestinian state. However, Indonesia also affirms that once Israel recognizes the independence and statehood of Palestine, Indonesia will immediately recognize the State of Israel and support all security guarantees for Israel,” said Prabowo, receiving loud applause from the assembly.
Prabowo underlined that the recognition of a state is essentially a commitment to peace. He further stressed that Indonesia is determined to promote lasting peace.
“The New York Declaration has provided a fair and peaceful path toward peace. Recognition of statehood must represent peace. Recognition must also translate into genuine opportunities for enduring peace. This should be true peace for all parties,” he stated.
Furthermore, Prabowo urged the countries attending the summit to promptly recognize the State of Palestine. He also highlighted that the war in Gaza must come to an end.
“We must recognize Palestine now. We must stop the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. Ending the war must be our top priority. We need to overcome hatred, fear, and mistrust. We must achieve the peace that humanity desperately needs,” he concluded.
