Improving the speed and stability of the tax administration core system, known as Coretax, has become one of Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa’s key priorities to boost tax revenue.
He stressed that the ongoing issues with Coretax, which have persisted since its launch on January 1, 2025, have already been identified, namely stemming from problems within the information technology (IT) system itself.
For this reason, Purbaya confirmed that he will bring in international IT experts to fix the Coretax system within the next month.
“The problem lies in the IT side, so I will bring top IT experts from abroad to fix it quickly,” said Purbaya during an APBN press conference at his office in Jakarta, Tuesday (September 23, 2025).
“If there are slowdowns, we will fix them going forward. It should be resolved within a month,” he emphasized.
The Director General of Taxes, Bimo Wijayanto, added that his office has been continuously working to improve the Coretax system.
During maintenance, Coretax sometimes needs to undergo downtime, meaning it cannot be accessed for a certain period. This was the case on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time.
“Some downtime is indeed scheduled for system maintenance because Coretax is a very large system with broad coverage. Currently, we are in the stabilization phase, with gradual improvements being carried out to make the system more reliable in the long run. By the end of 2025, we hope it will run smoothly,” Bimo explained.
As noted, the downtime on September 18, 2025, resulted in the e-Faktur Web and e-Filing applications being inaccessible during that period.
