Oracle Corporation, the technology company owned by billionaire Larry Ellison, is reportedly planning to invest in Indonesia. What kind of company is Oracle?
This information was revealed directly by the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming as well as the Head of BKPM, Rosan Roeslani, through a post on his official Instagram account (@rosanroeslani) after meeting with several Oracle representatives at his office.

“Oracle Corporation, a global technology company from the United States, widely known as a pioneer in databases, cloud services, and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, is planning to invest in Indonesia,” Rosan wrote in his post, Sunday (September 21, 2025).

In a video post, Rosan, who also serves as the CEO of Danantara, showcased his meeting with Oracle representatives. He explained that the discussions mainly revolved around the use of AI across various sectors.

“We talked about how AI can strengthen data sovereignty, improve efficiency in both public and private sectors, create new technology-related jobs, and accelerate Indonesia’s digital transformation toward becoming an advanced nation,” he said in the statement.

Oracle Corporation was founded when Larry Ellison presented a paper describing a program that mapped relationships between different databases to his colleagues Bob Miller and Ed Oates.

The three realized that no company had yet commercialized such technology at the time, so they decided to establish one in 1977.

Initially, the company was named Software Development Laboratories (SDL), with Oracle Database as its primary product. Soon after, the company rebranded itself as Oracle and has continued to grow into a global tech giant.

Thanks to this success, Ellison, who owns about 40% of Oracle’s shares, briefly held the title of the richest person in the world after surpassing Elon Musk.

According to a CNN report last week, Ellison managed to overtake Musk as the world’s richest person when his net worth surged by US$ 88 billion (around Rp 1,460.88 trillion at Rp 16,601/US$) due to Oracle’s rising stock value, before slipping slightly and placing him back as the second-richest.

Based on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the 81-year-old Ellison is Oracle’s largest individual shareholder. By the market’s close on that day, his wealth stood at US$ 383 billion (around Rp 6,358.18 trillion), just slightly below Elon Musk’s fortune of US$ 384 billion (around Rp 6,374.78 trillion).
