DIGIVESTASI - TikTok Available Again in the US, 170 Million Users Welcome the Return
TikTok is once again accessible to users in the United States after the app had previously been suspended. The return of the service was enthusiastically welcomed by approximately 170 million users in the country.
In an official statement published on social media platform X on Monday (January 20, 2025), TikTok expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump for providing the clarity and assurance needed for service providers.
“Thank you to President Trump for the clarity and assurance required for our service providers,” TikTok said in its statement.
The company also added that this decision would spare them from penalties, allowing more than 170 million users in the US to continue enjoying TikTok, and supporting more than 7 million small businesses to grow.
TikTok's return was prompted by a promise from the 47th President-elect of the US, Donald Trump, who committed to granting additional time for the app, saving it from the threat of being blocked. In an interview with NBC, Trump revealed that the decision to suspend the TikTok ban would be announced on Monday, coinciding with his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.
“A 90-day extension is very likely, as it is the right step,” Trump said in the interview.
TikTok Ban Shocks Users
Previously, TikTok users in the US were shocked by the sudden blocking of the app on Saturday night local time, which happened earlier than the timeline set by regulations. When the app could not be accessed, users received a message stating that efforts were underway to restore the service in the US as soon as possible and asked them to wait for further information.
Although the ban lasted for less than 24 hours, many users in the US expressed concern about the future of the app, especially those who rely on TikTok for their daily activities.
Although TikTok services have returned to normal, the future of the app developed by ByteDance remains uncertain. Ongoing debates over regulation and data security issues continue to make TikTok's position in the US vulnerable.
