DIGIVESTASI - PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk (MDKA) through its subsidiary PT Bumi Suksesindo (BSI) will soon operate a world-class underground copper mining project.  MDKA Communications General Manager Tom Malik said the project will be the third largest copper mine in Indonesia. Especially the mines owned by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) and PT Amman Minerals International Tbk (AMMAN).

First, Tom explained, in addition to the gold mine, PT BSI will also operate an underground copper mine in seven hills. This also marks the transition from mining operations that were originally carried out in open areas to underground areas. “At the Seven Hills Underground Mine, we are developing a project that will be a long-life copper mine. Once operational, this will be the third mine after Freeport and Amman,” he said, Friday (10/5/2024).

Tom revealed that his party is currently conducting further exploration in preparation for the operation of the underground mine. The underground copper mining project itself will have a 2-kilometer tunnel and an investment value of $200 million.

“Because this is an underground tunnel, almost two kilometers of tunnel have been built since we started in 2017 and almost $200 million was spent on the exploration process alone,” he said.
Previously, MDKA recorded a significant increase in indicated resources of 755 million tons at its Tuju Bukit copper project in Banyuwangi, East Java.  This is an increase of more than 300 million tons, or 71%, from the previously reported resource of 442 million tons.

The project's total mineral resource grade (indicated and inferred) increased from 1.706 billion tons to 1.738 billion tons, with a copper grade of 0.47% and a gold grade of 0.5 g/ton.
This increase in mineral resources translates to an increase in Indicated Mineral Resources from 2.7 million tons of copper to 4.5 million tons of copper and from 9.4 million ounces of gold to 16.1 million ounces of gold.

Therefore, the total mineral resources of the Tuju Bukit Copper Project, which originally included 8.1 million tons of copper and 27.4 million ounces of gold, now total 8.2 million tons of copper and 27.9 million ounces of gold.
